PAST PROJECTS BELOW:
2005/2006 - A planning committee of
representatives from Toledo PRIDE and TILT met over the summer to not only plan
the meeting, but to draft an idea around the selected topic: respect and
tolerance. The committee spent time defining the word “respect” and
developed this acronym:
R- Remember
E- Everyone
S- Shares
P- Potential to
E- Eliminate
C- Certain
T- Thoughts
They also designed a logo:
On October 19, 2005 the planning group introduced a campaign that was subsequently implemented in partner groups’ schools, community centers, and places of worship during the month of February 2006. It involved displaying posters that promote respect and tolerance. Ideas for poster content were made available on The Community Partnership’s website, and were also available for replication on disk. The planning committee suggested to display the posters as follows:
Monday: Partnering to Build Tolerance and Respect (click to display)
This one poster along with the
acronym and the logo would introduce the campaign—hopefully get its readers
curious as to what comes next.
Tuesday: Display those posters that define through research methods, why we need such a campaign to promote respect and tolerance. Groups can download the posters click here or design their own.
Wednesday: Display posters that bring
attention to the different ways people are disrespected (labeled, gossiped
about, hated, etc). Groups can download the posters click here or design their
own.
Thursday: Display posters that offer
solutions that can be implemented easily and immediately. Groups can download
the posters click here or design their own.
Friday: We end where we began by displaying the poster in various places throughout the area: Partnering to Build Tolerance and Respect.
As youth groups partnered throughout the region, the posters were being displayed and other activities that promoted respect and tolerance were implemented. According to group reports, 70 students were involved promoting the campaign. An estimated 7,115 people viewed the posters or received the benefit of announcements, workshops and/or presentations that were implemented in the various sites. The groups’ campaigns were present in 7 high schools, 6 junior high schools, 3 middle schools, one (1) alternative school, 2 (2) community centers, one (1) library system, one (1) YMCA, one (1) funder and 7 (7) coalitions.
2006/2007 - The Ad Club, a group of local advertisers and media representatives were made aware of the campaign, and asked to join in the partnership. They were impressed with the poster campaign, and wanted to help the group get their message out to as many youth as possible. The Ad Club professionals pooled their resources, reviewed the youth’s work and came up with a new logo, a series of billboard designs, a Public Service Announcement script, table tents and posters to add to the already existing campaign. To date many thousands of dollars worth of advertising materials and space has been dedicated to the campaign. The youth have collectively demonstrated that many can be reached by the power of a few when working together.
With the addition of the Ad Club, the North West region’s messages will reach more and more people in Northwest Ohio.
