The Education Committee is composed of professionals who work within Lucas County and surrounding area public, private, city and suburban schools. Under the continued guidance of Dr. Bill Ivoska, the group is responsible for helping to develop and administer the 2008 ADAS Youth Survey.  The committee has been helping with the survey since 1990.  This most recent survey (2006) was presented to approximately 30,000 young people in grades 5-12 to assess drug trends, usage and perceived harmfulness of substances. Additionally, a small number of health and mental health related questions were asked to provide data for the Toledo/Lucas County Health Department and the former Lucas County Mental Health Board, now known as the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Lucas County.

Currently, the committee is working on strategies to present the survey results to the community through the "Start Talking Before They Start Drinking" national campaign that aligns what we have learned locally from the ADAS Survey with national efforts. Additionally, members of the Education committee have developed a workshop for school coaches on the affects of alcohol on student athletes.  For more information on this training opportunity, please call the Partnership.

The Student Assistance Network (SAN) began as a sub group of the Education Committee. It is comprised of school professionals who provide prevention and intervention services for students. This committee meets to identify drug trends, share current information and methodologies, and promote networking and sharing of resources. They also review school policy as it relates to drug and alcohol issues.  Materials were also created to assist schools in locating treatment and intervention services.  Guidelines for selecting speakers who present on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs were compiled by the committee and are available here.
